Obtaining and using your web space

So you want a new student organization web account, huh? Foremost, you should make sure you are a registered student organization (RSO). If you're not you cannot get RSO web space.

Obtaining web space

  1. If you are not yet an RSO, follow the procedure for becoming one. You can obtain web space and email at that time. If you are an RSO, you will need to fill out a form you can get from the Office of Student Activities.
  2. Turn in the appropriate form.
  3. Within 48 hours you will receive notification of your web account creation and instruction on how to use it.

Using your web space and email account

  1. If you haven't changed your password please do so by visiting www.login.mtu.edu.
  2. Did you know you also have an email account? It should be your organization's new userid followed by @mtu.edu. You can provide this address to whomever you wish so that one or many group members can check and respond to your organization's email. To check your organizations email, use Huskymail (http://huskymail.mtu.edu). Or you may set up an email program, like Mozilla Thunderbird, to use this email account visit our client configuration page at http://emailinfo.mtu.edu/docs/public/settings/index.html.
  3. The next thing you need is content. All we do is provide the server and the space for your content. We don't help create content (e.g. HTML, JavaScript, etc.). However, we do provide some popular, third-party applications that might make your job easier so you will probably want to look into that. The front page of this web site lists what is provided with this service.
  4. If you already have some content and are wondering how to get that content to the server so it appears on your web site please visit the frequently asked questionssection of the site. It will tell you how to log on to the server and how to get your content to the server.
